Bentley Weekly News 07/02/20

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘long’ and ‘out’

Yr1/2 - ‘product’ and ‘process’

Hedgehogs – ‘community’ and ‘comparison’

Adders – ‘prairie’ and ‘governance’

Special menus coming up – We have 2 special changes to the menu coming up in the next few weeks; on Friday 14th there will be special Valentines cupcakes for dessert instead of fruit. Of course, children can still order fruit if they would prefer. The second change is on World Book Day, Thursday 5th March. There will be an exciting menu inspired by children’s books that will replace the published menu for the day. Please see the poster in the notice board for details. We need to know by Friday 28th Feb if your child would like to order one of these meals and which option they would like.

Online Safety – Safer Internet Day – Look out next week for two really useful leaflets coming home about online safety for Primary School Children. Tuesday is Safer Internet Day and we will be working in the classes on how to keep ourselves safer on the internet.

World Book Day – Bit of advance notice for you all; on Thursday 5th March, we will be taking part in the annual World Book Day. This year we are inviting children to come dressed as an adjective!!! Simple examples would be ‘spotty’ or ‘stripy’, however, we would love for you to get really imaginative and we will be having fun on the day guessing what adjective each of us is dressed up as. There will be a prize for the most imaginative / ingenious costume in each class. As ever, dressing up is optional, your child does not have to if they don’t want to and are welcome to just wear uniform on the day. We can’t wait to see your designs and creations!

Children’s Mental Health Week - As part of children's mental health week we would like to remind you that we offer a range of support within school as part of our Early Help offer. If you are worried about something or have a concern within your family that we may be able to help with please call in and speak to a member of staff. Further information is available on the website http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/page/keeping-children-safe/20713

Reading Challenge There has been a definite improvement this week. It is great to see that more children are starting to read regularly and are enjoying it!

2 children in Adders did not achieve 5 reads -         Star Class This Week

4 children in Wolves did not achieve 5 reads (this is better than last week)

10 children in Hedgehogs did not achieve 5 reads – that is half of the class

Please record your child’s reads and support them to do as much as possible (older children can record their own reads).

Wolves Tea Afternoon – We are looking forward to our afternoon tea on Wednesday. The event will be held from 1:30pm however, if grandparents are only able to make it a little later, they will still be very welcome. Thank you to those families who have confirmed that grandparents will be coming along. Don’t forget, Wolves will be wearing their 1960s clothes again on this day.

Year 5 / 6 Basketball Comp – Those children taking part in the basketball competition on Tuesday need a packed lunch and need to meet the mini-bus at the War Memorial at 8:45am. If you have younger children that need to be dropped at school as well, please feel free to bring them in to school at 8:35am through the front door. Kits will be sent home the day before and children need to be in them in the morning, with uniform in a bag for the afternoon. Kits will need to be washed and returned afterwards please.

Tractor visiting school – We are very fortunate that again this year, we are being visited by a local farmer to talk to the children about agriculture. They will be coming to the school, with a tractor, on Thursday.

Coffee and Chat Thank you for completing our questionnaire about the experiences your child has already had. We will be reviewing this as a staff team and using the information to support our next steps for curriculum enhancements. As part of our curriculum review we would also like to share more information with parents about how our topic learning is planned and introduced to the children. Our next Coffee and Chat session will be held on Friday 28th February at 1.45pm, before shared learning in classes. We hope you will be able to attend to find out more about our curriculum development.

For Sale / Wanted – Do you have an item to sell? Or are you looking for babysitter or a cleaner? If so, why not advertise somewhere that all our families see every week? For just 20p a week, we can put an ad in the notice board on the playground. All funds raised will go towards the up-keep of the chickens. Just pop in to the office if you would like to place an ad.

Break the Uniform Rules Day Hopefully you will have seen the email and posters about the PTA break the uniform rules day on 14th Feb. If your child would like to take part, they can come with crazy hair, nail varnish, own shoes and own clothes in exchange for a 50p donation for each rule broken. We have been asked by a few children about wearing make-up and jewellery on the day, these will not be acceptable. Please stick to the 4 rules as seen on the poster.
