Bentley Weekly Update 01/02/19

A Warm Welcome – We are very pleased to welcome 2 new children to the Bentley School family; Riley joins us in Adders class and Harry joins us in Wolves class. We hope that they and their families enjoy their time here at Bentley.

Words of the Week – As part of our vocabulary project, every week we will be publishing 2 words per class for children to use in their everyday speech and in their writing. They will be learning the words each week in school, so will know the meaning, and we are asking you to encourage them to use the words at home, as well as at school. The words for this week are:

Adders – ‘dilapidated’ and ‘variable’

Hedgehogs – ‘theory’ and ‘interpret’

Wolves (Yr1&2) – ‘divide’ and ‘ascend’

Parking on Zig Zag Lines – Despite various reminders about how dangerous it is to park on the zig zag lines outside the school, a few people are still persisting with this thoughtless action. We will be recording the number plates of vehicles seen on the zig zag lines and reporting them to the police. The lines are there for reasons of safety; the last thing we want is a child injured or worse.

Hedgehogs to Copdock – Hedgehogs class will be transported by either mini-bus or staff car to Copdock next Tuesday, for a visit from the Wolsey Theatre. The children will be brought back to Bentley in time for lunch so there is no need for a special packed lunch on this occasion. The visit is covered by the permission form you completed at the start of the year so there is no need to send in a separate permission. It should be a lovely and entertaining visit, with a performance being put on by the team for the children.

Safer Internet Day – All classes will be taking part in Safer Internet Day activities, next Wednesday, 5th Feb. We will be looking at age appropriate strategies for staying safe online. Hopefully you have had the chance to read the online safety magazine designed for parents, but just in case, it can be found at http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/serve_file/313994 Look out for the booklet coming home on the day also.

Slippery Paths – We sent out an email this week to ask if anyone could help clear paths / put down grit in the mornings during this icy weather. A huge thanks to Gail (George and Dylan’s Mum) for volunteering to help on Thursdays and James (Kate’s Dad) on Fridays. If you can help on any other day, please let us know. Thank you.

Advanced Notice – Family assembly on 29th March will be at 9am, to make way for the PTA’s Mothers’ Day Tea in the hall in the afternoon.
