Bentley Weekly Update 01/11/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘corner’ and ‘thin’

Yr1/2 - ‘amphibian’ and ‘emotion’

Hedgehogs – ‘diverse’ and ‘eerie’

Adders – ‘velocity’ and ‘rotation’

Police Assembly - This week 2 police officers and their car visited the school to talk to the children about how to contact the police in an emergency and to remind them about safety at Halloween.  They advised that parents should teach their children their home postcode and phone number, so that they can pass on this information in an emergency situation.  This might be a useful to check that your child knows this.

Halloween Disco – What a fantastic disco this year! A massive great thank you to all the parent helpers that stayed to support the event. It raised £125.84 which will be split between Eco Council and Chicken Crew. The costumes were the best ever this year; judging the best costume competition was almost impossible. Thank you to all our families for your support.

Wolves - Year 1 and 2 children have now been given their CGP maths books to use for homework.  Please refer to the contents page to see which pages they need to complete each week, as we don't necessarily work through the book in order.  These books will need to be in school on a Friday for marking, starting from next Friday.  We are also practicing learning to tell the time and this could be supported at home.  Some of the children already wear a watch for school which is really useful to help with this.  It might be a good idea to put a watch on their Christmas list if they don't already have one!

Remembrance Service – As in previous years, we will be walking up to the memorial at 10:50am on Monday 11th November. Please do come and join us if you can.

Hedgehogs – Just a quick reminder that Hedgehogs will be travelling to Sproughton to take part in a Hindu Learning Experience. We will be back by lunch time.

Get Set For Tokyo – As part of our active school’s agenda we are taking part in the Get Set Travel to Tokyo Challenge. We are asking for children to log their activity outside of school in a virtual trip to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. By visiting the website they can log their own activity towards their class target, whilst including any other members of the family that have taken part with them. The aim is to inspire families to be active together. There is also a range of fun 10 minute activities to try which can also be logged on the tracker. We will be introducing this to the children next week and hope you will support us in ensuring the children become more active. Use the link https://www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo to log your activity. The school postcode is IP8 3HY (we have entered as one school so we can all share the challenge and see how each other are getting on). Good Luck!

Federation Recycling Exhibition – All the children in each of the classes have been working hard on class presentations ready for the exciting day we have planned next Thursday, 7th Nov. Parents are warmly invited to come along to Copdock Village Hall from 2:15pm to view the exhibition. The timings have altered slightly for the day, so children do not need to specifically have a packed lunch on this day now. Children will need to be dropped off at school as usual on Thursday, but will need to be collected from Copdock Village Hall at 3:15pm. Any children booked into the after school club at Copdock on the day will be transported there by staff. Please do come along if you can to see all the hard work the children have put into their projects.

Christmas Cake Club – Children who have been successful in getting a place on this year’s cake club, just a reminder that the club starts this coming Wednesday, 6th Nov, 3:15 – 4:15pm. If you have a very large mixing bowl we could borrow, we would be exceedingly grateful!

Christian Value This half term we are looking at the theme of Trust.  Please follow the link on the Ethos page of our website to activity sheets you can use at home to explore this theme. http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/uploads/248/files/HomeSchoolValues-TRUST(1).pdf

Altar Cloth Sewing - Following our competition to design an altar cloth for us to use in church, we are now in the process of making Myles' winning design.  It would be lovely if some of our parents or grandparents could be involved in the cutting out of felt pieces for the design, and the stitching of the felt onto the altar cloth panel that Sandra Mehen kindly made for us.  If you could spare some time to support us with this by working with a small couple of children, we would be grateful.  Please let Mrs Rudge or the school office know when you are available.

Individual and Siblings Photos – The photographer is coming in on Friday morning to take this year’s photos.

PTA AGM – Next Friday, 8th November, is the PTA AGM. ALL parents are very welcome and if you would like to get involved with our hard working PTA, this is a great opportunity to meet some members and find out what they get up to! We also need volunteers to help run the stalls at the Christmas fayre. If you are willing to give some of your time to help, please speak to one of the PTA members. Thank you.
