Bentley Weekly Update 03/05/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘heavy’ and ‘new’

Yr1/2 - ‘discover’ and ‘caption’

Hedgehogs – ‘column’ and ‘variable’

Adders – ‘relentless’ and ‘establishing’

Families at Church – Another one in the series of Families at Church events is taking place at Bentley Church (St Mary’s) this Sunday at 10am. It would be great to see some Bentley families there. It is aimed at children and families and as ever, you would be assured of a very warm welcome from the lovely team at Bentley Church. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Dinner Change Reminder – Tuesday’s menu will be replaced with Monday’s menu (see last newsletter or poster on notice board for details). The menu will then run as advertised from Wednesday.

Mistaken Identity – We have had a few reports of uniform, in particular school jumpers, going missing even when they are clearly named. It is very easy for a child (particularly those in Wolves) to pick up the wrong jumper at the end of the day and take it home. One child this week has had a brand new, named jumper go missing. Please could you take a little time this weekend just checking that it hasn’t ended up in your wash pile by mistake!

PTA – Adults Only Quiz, Friday 10th May -Tickets are £5 each, this includes entry to the quiz and nibbles on tables. Teams of 6 maximum. There will be a pay bar and a raffle on the night with some fabulous prizes.

The following week, there will be a non-uniform day on Friday 17th May in exchange for a bottle! (alcohol preferred if possible) to go on our bottle tombola at our summer fete. The PTA are also holding their first ever second hand uniform pop up shop! This is will be alongside a cake sale on Friday 24th May. If anyone has any uniform they wish to donate, please pass on to any PTA member or pop it in the office. All money raised goes towards enhancing your children’s education!

Thank you for your continued support at our events. The team work super hard behind the scenes to organise new events and volunteer their time to raise much needed funds for our lovely school.

Adders – Quick reminder that ALL Adders will be travelling to Copdock on Thursday and Friday next week for mornings of joint learning. Please meet the minibus at 8:45am at the Memorial. The children will be back at Bentley for lunch.

Year 6 SATs – Mrs Robinson will be holding a SATs breakfast for children in Year 6 from Monday 13th May to Thursday 16th May at 8:30am. There is no charge for this and children will be offered toast, cereal and juice. Please bring your Year 6 child along to these sessions if you can as it will be a great start to each day of their SATs. Please continue to support your child with their homework in the run up to the week; work completed at home in addition to work at school really does have a huge impact.

Hedgehogs – Homework this week is Times Tables Rockstars – 30 minutes in total for Year 3 and 60 minutes in total for Year 4 over the week. Don’t forget, next Friday (10th May) is Hedgehogs Greek Day. Dressing up as an ancient Greek is completely optional and we are looking forward to some creative bed sheets and white t-shirts!

Head Lice – We have had reports of head lice again in Wolves class. Please support us in eradicating this problem as it distracts children from their learning and is uncomfortable for them. Advice can be found from the NHS at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/

There is also a useful video you can watch at https://www.nhs.uk/video/Pages/how-do-i-check-for-headlice-and-treat-headlice.aspx?searchtype=Tag&searchterm=Information+Service+for+Parents&offset=17

The Big Chicken Move – Hopefully you will have all received the email about preparing the ground and moving the chickens ready for the installation of the new gym equipment. Any help you can give on the 18th May will be very much appreciated. Refreshments will be on hand during the day to keep us all going.
