Bentley Weekly Update 04/10/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘back’ and ‘under’

Yr1/2 - ‘overjoyed’ and ‘demolish’

Hedgehogs – ‘wretched’ and ‘miraculous’

Adders – ‘inadequate’ and ‘implement’

Important Dates Added to Diary – Please see the dates for your diary section at the bottom of this newsletter as it has lots of important dates surrounding Christmas and parents’ evenings.

Christmas Performance Recordings – For many years now, we have been lucky enough to have had a parent, Craig P, recording all the performances and putting them onto DVDs for us. As his child has now moved on to High School, we are in dire need of someone to take over this task. If you have digital recording equipment and are willing to help us out, we would love to hear from you. Please speak to Mrs Rudge or Mrs Gunn about what is involved. Thank you.

Rollerworld Promotion – If you are into your skating and laser tag, please take a look at the website. There is a link to a special promotion we have running with Rollerworld and gives families reduced price entry to sessions as well as raising funds for the school.

School Council Snack Shop –

Dear parents

We are writing to you today to inform you that we are going to have a trial two weeks for a snack shop.  The snack shop will run at break time every day until the end of half term, starting on Monday 7th October.  Everything will cost 10p and no more than 20p can be spent at once.

This is what could be included: different types of crackers, mini raisin packets, cheese straws and rice crackers. The idea behind it is to offer children the opportunity to buy a snack if they haven’t brought one in from home.  The snack shop has been running at Copdock for quite a few years now and is always popular.

Thank you for your support

School Council

Macmillan – A Huge Thank You – Our sincere gratitude goes to everyone who supported our Macmillan Coffee and Cake event last week. We raised the most we ever have at one of these events - £158.45. Well done to all involved

Eco Bricks – Help Us Help The Planet – Children have been looking at how to make Eco Bricks. These are clever way of using unrecyclable plastics. Please support our project by making one at home. Basic instructions can be found on the website in the letters section and attached to the email with this weekly update.

Sunday Family Service - Sunday 6th October. This will be a short, family friendly service with activities and followed by yummy refreshments. We hope to see lots of Bentley School families there from 10am at St Mary’s Church, Bentley.

Reception Phonics – All reception children have been given phonics exercise books to bring home. Can they please practice writing the letters out and colour in the pictures. Parents can model sounding out the words written on the sheets and how to say them.

PE KITS and Uniform – There are a lot of children who have items of PE kit missing and both uniform and PE kits unnamed! This is causing havoc in the classrooms. Please, please make sure that your child has their complete PE kit in school and that every item of clothing is named. Thank you.

Year 5/6 Tag Rugby – Bit of a heads up for you, this year’s tournament will be on Monday 18th November. The team has not been selected yet; as soon as it has, parents of children involved will be emailed. Next half term’s after school club will be tag rugby for children in Hedgehogs and Adders. We would encourage those Adders taking part in the tournament to be part of this club but we do appreciate there is a cost involved.

Year 4 Music Trip Cancelled – The Year 4 trip to Ipswich School on Monday 14th October has unfortunately had to be cancelled due to issues with transport.

FREE Maths Session and Shared Learning – On Friday 1st November, please come along at 1:30pm to join in some fun maths activities with your child in class. There will be an opportunity to see how the maths bags are used at home; these packs of equipment can then be borrowed to support your child’s learning. Straight after, from 2:15pm, will be the sharing learning session. This is a lovely opportunity to sit down with your child/ren and see what they have been achieving. Do come along to these events if you can.
