Bentley Weekly Update 05/07/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘invent’ and ‘discover’ (same as last week)

Yr1/2 - ‘baptism’ and ‘symbol’

Hedgehogs – ‘adapted’ and ‘invertebrate’

Adders – ‘collaboration’ and ‘nostalgia’

The Big Reveal – We are very pleased to announce that the gym equipment has officially been opened today! The children have already been having a fabulous time on the equipment. HUGE, HUGE, HUGE thanks go to the PTA, Larry and Dot and all the parents who worked so, so hard to raise the money for installation. Please see the PTA Facebook page for pictures and video of the unveiling.

Head Pupils – This year has seen more pupils going up for the role of head pupil than ever before! Mrs Austin praised everyone who had the confidence to stand up in front of the school and explain why they would be perfect for the role. The field was whittled down to 4 children and interviews were held today. All 4 interviewed really well and Mrs Austin and the current Head Pupils had a truly tough decision to make. After a great deal of deliberation we can announce that Poppy and Cain have been given the responsibility of taking on the role of Head Pupils from September. However, the other two pupils that had interviews impressed so much that we are pleased to tell you that Kate will be the Deputy Head Pupil next year and Myles will be the Chair of the School Council. Well done to everybody who took part, it is fabulous to see so many children wanting to give their time to improve things in the school.

School Council Speeches – Children wanting to run for School Council next year will need to deliver their speeches on Monday morning. If your child is standing, please encourage them to have their speech prepared and to let their teacher know first thing on Monday morning that they are taking part in the elections.

Pet Service Sunday – Well done to all those children who submitted poems and prayers, they were all so good that each will be receiving a small prize during family assembly next Friday. On that subject, just a quick reminder that family assembly next week is at 9:00am! The Pet Service at the church will be held this Sunday, 7th July, at 10:00am.

Activity Week - As we are only going to be doing the residential trip every other year for Adders, we are looking at instigating an activity week in September, to potentially include activities such as fencing and canoeing to name but a few.  Look out for a letter coming your way soon.  We just wanted to give a heads up for next year’s Adders (current year 4 & 5) that there will be a cost involved for some of these activities which we will notify you of once we have confirmed the arrangements.

Coffee and Chat – Just a quick reminder that all parents are warmly invited to come along next Tuesday, at 8:50am, to hear about the outcome of the communications survey that parents completed back in May. It is also a chance to find out about changes to the Relationships Education policy and other curriculum changes for the coming year.

Hedgehogs Early Start – Hedgehogs need to be in at 8:30am on Tuesday for registration, ready for their Minsmere trip. Please refer to the letter that was sent home for details of what they need. The letter contains all the details. It can also be found on the website in the Bentley letters section.

PE and Football Next Week – As per the information that came out at the start of the half term, PE and football club will be at the school this week, not at the field. Hedgehogs children taking part in the football club will join in as soon as they get back from Minsmere.

Adders on Thursday – Please refer to the letter that was emailed to all Adders parents last week about activities planned for Thursday (11th July). Year 5 are at Copdock for forest schools and Year 6 are attending the Big Bang Science Day at West Suffolk College. The letter contains all the details. It can also be found on the website.

Wolves Short Topic - Wolves class are learning about Christian Baptism next Monday and Tuesday.  If your child has been baptised or christened and has a photo, gift, baptism certificate or their baptism candle, please could they bring it in to share.  Thank you.

Maths Bags – We are still missing a large number of Maths Bags that were supposed to be in today. Please have a good root round for them over the weekend and bring them in on Monday. Thank you.
