Bentley Weekly Update 06/09/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘next’ and ‘before’

Yr1/2 - ‘recycle’ and ‘reuse’

Hedgehogs – ‘enhance’ and ‘launch’

Adders – ‘scenario’ and ‘monarchy’

Meet the Teachers – We have had a very positive response so far about the Meet the Teachers event taking place next Wednesday (11th Sept) at 6pm. In an ideal world, we would love every parent to come along and find out about plans for the year. There will be free food tasters courtesy of Norse catering. There will be a free crèche for any children (small babies welcome to stay with adults) so you can get as much out of the event as possible. We do need to know numbers so please email in to let us know if you are coming.

Swimming Years 2 to 4- Swimming starts this coming Monday. Please ensure you have read the details about appropriate swim wear and that your child has a swim hat; they will not be able to swim without one. If your child wears earrings, please remove them before coming to school on Mondays. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Circus Is Coming! – We are super excited to confirm that the wonderful Circus Ferrel will be visiting our federation again this half term, from Monday 23rd September. All children across both sites will be able to part in circus skills workshops and Adders will be having a sleepover in the big top. Tickets for the shows will be available from the school office for just £6 each (£8 on the door). Please see posters for more information.

Adders to Regent’s Theatre – Adders class are off to the Regent’s Theatre next Thursday to see Horrible Histories Live. We can’t wait to learn some gruesome facts about the ancient Egyptians! If you haven’t already done so, please ensure permission and payment is brought into school by Monday. Thank you.

Lunches – We are very proud of our school and the children and staff’s commitment to learning about healthy eating. We also need to make the school a safe and healthy place for every child, so with this in mind, please may remind you that packed lunches must not contain any food stuffs that have nuts in; this includes the vast majority of chocolate spreads! Packed lunches should be healthy and nutritious and we would ask you to avoid sending in too many sugary items please.

Adders’ Adventure Week – Hopefully parents of children in years 5 and 6 read the email sent home before the summer break about the Adventure Week planned from the week commencing 23rd September. A letter with much more detail will be sent home next week; please return all permissions with the £40 payment by next Friday, 13th September. We have so many thrilling activities planned; the children are really excited about it! This week has been organised in place of a residential visit this year. We listened to parents about the cost of sending children on residential visits on 2 consecutive years so have committed to only going every other year. This ensures that every child still has the opportunity to go on a residential visit during their time in Adders; we believe this is an important part of every child’s development.

Parking – As ever, parking remains a challenge at the start and end of each day. Please park considerately or better still, walk to school. There are a number of places to park on the road adjacent to the war memorial and the pub committee have kindly said that parents can park in their car park and walk (it is just a 10min walk). Thank you in anticipation for your support with this. Walk to School Wednesdays will resume next week – this makes a big difference to the parking situation so please meet at the war memorial at 8:30am to join in; you do not have to stay with your child, you can simply drop them at the memorial on these days.

RSE - Following our consultation in school last term about the new Relationships and Sex Education curriculum, all parents are invited to East Bergholt High School to hear more about the requirements and how we are working together as a group of local schools to support children to develop safe and fulfilling relationships from an early age. Please see invitation attached to the weekly news email.

Assemblies - children have been discussing some agreements for how assemblies will be structured across the week. We would like to invite all parents in to our Friday assembly at 2:45pm, if you are free, to share learning experiences across the classes and celebrate successes together. Children are all clear on their own responsibilities during assembly to make sure we respect those who are speaking and so we would ask parents to support us to make assemblies a positive experience for all by agreeing to the following...

  • Turning phones on to silent before coming in, sitting quietly once the music begins as this prompts the beginning of our assembly.
  • Listening to contributions (it is important children know that their achievements deserve to be celebrated and listened to).
  • We welcome younger siblings but would ask that if they begin to make a lot of noise you exit the hall so other parents and children can still hear the speakers.
  • Finally, we would love you to join in with the singing too!

Coins found – a couple of collectable coins have been found in the playground. If you think they may be yours, please pop into the office.

PTA Meeting – Please come and join us for the first PTA meeting of the new school year next Friday after school. There will be a crèche for children. Do come along if you can – all welcome!
