Bentley Weekly Update 08/03/19

Words of the Week

Reception – ‘whole’ and ‘different’

Year 1/2 – ‘resistance’ and ‘dense’

Hedgehogs – ‘terrain’ and ‘fraction’

Adders – ‘nonchalant’ and ‘terrain’

Junk Modelling – KS2 have been looking at designs of motorised vehicles and planning our all- terrain cars in preparation for the science day next Thursday. We still need a number of small cardboard boxes (tissue boxes are the perfect size) and any other bits your child thinks would be useful for their design. Please bring any items in on Monday, thank you.

Recycling Day – Our thanks to Sharon Lockhart (Laura’s Mum) who came in to Hedgehogs class this week to talk about recycling. Sharon works for FCC who deal with all the waste management in Suffolk and she taught us all a great deal about what happens to the rubbish we generate and some surprising facts about what can and can’t be recycled!

World Book Day – Hopefully you have all enjoyed looking at the photos on the website (in the gallery section on the homepage) of all the wonderful potato creations that were brought in. In Adders class, George won with his interpretation of Mr Twit. In Hedgehogs, Leia’s Gangster Granny won first prize and in Wolves, a depiction of Zog by Natalia was the winner. Well done everyone! Thank you to parents / carers who supported their child to make the potato character; it was lovely to do something a bit different!

Parent Governor - We are really pleased to inform you that Liz Collyer will be joining our Governing Board as one of our Parent Governors. Liz is a parent of two children currently attending Copdock School and brings a range of expertise to our team including educational experience. Her personal statement is available on the school website. We look forward to working with Liz in the coming months.

Red Nose Day – An email was sent to all this week about Red Nose Day next Friday. In case you missed it, the school council wrote:

Dear parents/carers,

We are writing to you to inform you that School council have decided what we are doing for this year’s comic relief Red Nose Day on Friday 15th of March. We are going to do a 30 minute sponsored activity for each class. Also, we will be selling some red noses for £1.25 each before and after school, with a rare happy hooter frog nose! Adders will be doing gang beast yoga (yoga with a twist). Wolves are doing running as their sponsored activity and Hedgehogs are doing a 3 legged race; sponsorship forms have been sent home and the money must come in by Monday 18th March. On the day, you can come dressed in red if you would like to; if you do come to school in red, you will need to have either sponsorship money for the class activity OR a £1 donation to Comic Relief. Please support us with as many donations as possible. Thank you.

Sincerely School Council

High School Visitor – We are very pleased to confirm that Mike Chapman, a science teacher at EBHS, and a pupil from the school, will be coming in to work with Adders and Hedgehogs next week as part of science week. They will be joining us for the whole morning on Tuesday and we are keen to get his thoughts on our vehicle designs.

Easter Bonnets – For those parents who are new to the school, we have an Easter Bonnet parade every year where children bring in their creative Easter headgear (it can be a bonnet, a hat or cap) and prizes are given in each year group. This is completely optional and just for fun at the end of the term. This year the parade will take place during family assembly on Friday 5th April from 2:30pm.

Lego Tokens – Thank you to everyone who has brought in Lego tokens. We are still very short of our target though so we still are collecting the Lego tokens being printed in the East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star. If you have any of these, we would be very grateful for them.

Year 4, 5 and 6 Cross Country – We are still missing a few permissions for the competition that is due to take place on 3rd April. If your child has been selected (letters and emails have been sent to those involved), please get the forms back in by this coming Monday, 11th March, thank you.

Science Day 14th March – As you will have seen in the newsletter over the last few weeks, Hedgehogs and Adders will be at Copdock Village Hall all day next Thursday 14th March and Wolves will be at Copdock School all day. Hedgehogs and Adders will need a packed lunch on the day but Wolves will be able to order a hot dinner as usual. The day will be dedicated to science, investigations and inventions. Please drop your child at the relevant venue between 8:45am and 9am. If you arrive before 8:45am, please stay with your child; we had a lot of children being dropped off and left before the start of the day the last time we held a special day at Copdock Village Hall. Copdock Village Hall has a one way system and parents need to park properly and bring their child into the village hall, not just let them out of vehicles; this is for the safety of the children as there will be many moving vehicles at that time. There is a large car park to the rear of the village hall as you follow round on the one way system.

Parents of Hedgehogs and Adders are warmly invited to come and join us from 2pm to see our inventions in action. Children need to be collected from the village hall between 3pm to 3:15pm and Wolves need to be collected from Copdock School at 3:15pm. We also need to know if your child will be attending morning club that day as we will need to make sure we have enough capacity to transport them to Copdock. Please let us know by next Thursday, 7th March, if you intend to use morning club on the 14th March. Children booked into after school club will be transported at the end of the day as usual. Thank you.

Family Assembly 29th March – Just another reminder that family assembly will be at 9:00am on this day as the Mothers’ Day Tea is being held in the school hall in the afternoon.
