Bentley Weekly Update 09/11/18

Safe Parking – The Wednesday Walking Bus this week was a great success and helped the parking situation at school. Thank you so much to all the families who supported the venture and met up at the War Memorial. We will continue the Wednesday Walking Bus for the remainder of this term and hope to make it a permanent fixture. As mentioned in previous newsletters, please remember that there must be no parking in the entrance to the staff carpark or in the turning point just past our neighbours’ house, as this causes chaos for vehicles needing to turn on our narrow road and blocking the staff car park stops staff transporting children to the afterschool club.

Polar Explorer Assembly – On Monday, a very special visitor came to Bentley to share their adventures with the children. We were very lucky to meet, and be inspired by, Polar Explorer and climber of Mount Everest, Ricky Munday. His tale of perseverance and determination was truly inspirational and we are very grateful to him for taking the time to provide an awe inspiring assembly. We will be doing work in class on this in the following weeks.

Tag Rugby – Some children from years 5 and 6 represented the school at the Tag Rugby competition this week and the staff that went were blown away by their fantastic team spirit and marvellous defence. Even when they can up against much bigger and faster children on other teams, they remained resilient and presented a united front that really impressed everyone. Well done!

We Will Remember – The service at the memorial this week was ever so poignant and we are grateful to the Royal British Legion and the Bentley Veterans for supporting our service. Some of the pupils then went to the church to lay a wreath on the grave of one of the brave men who died in battle and were buried there. The children have been learning about the First World War, the people who fought in it and the pain and suffering that it caused. Thank you so much to those families who supported the children’s learning by sending in pictures of ancestors who were in the war, artefacts and other memorabilia. The children in Adders even got to handle some 100 year old artefacts to get a tangible feel for the History. The rest of the day was given to reflection with ‘stations’ set up all round the school, looking at war and peace in both past and present conflicts and praying for those who find themselves in war-torn parts of the world right now.

Christmas Decoration Making – This fun annual event will take place on Wednesday 28th November this year, from 2pm. We would love as many parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and even well supervised younger siblings as possible to come along and join in the festivities. It is always good fun and really gets you in a Christmassy mood!

Goosebumps Cinema Trip – A quick reminder that all Adders will need a packed lunch on Tuesday due to their trip to Empire Cinema.

Wolves Healthy Café – As described last week, Wolves will be holding a healthy Café from 2pm on Tuesday. It would be useful to have an idea of how many parents are coming so we know how many ingredients etc to buy. If you can come along, please email into school by Monday, although, we will do our best to cater for all comers. Thank you.

Bentley Bake Off and Children in Need – Hopefully you will have all read the letter about the baking competition on Friday. We can’t wait to see your entries. Cakes will be raffled off at the end of the day and any money raised will be donated to Children in Need. Children can come to school in the colours as outlined in the letter in return for a 50p donation also for Children in Need. All children who bring in their donation will be given a cake to decorate on the day. The letter with the full details about the day was emailed to you last week, but if you cannot find that email for any reason, the letter is also in the letters section on the website.

Open Afternoon and Evening – If any of your friends or relatives have children starting School next September, please do encourage them to come along to our open afternoon and / or evening on Wednesday 14th November. The afternoon starts at 1:30pm and the evening starts at 6:30pm.

PE Kit – Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school every day. So many children this week had only a partial PE kit and few didn’t have them at all. PE kits should be kept in school and taken home at half term for washing. Thank you in anticipation for your support.

Last Day of Term – Please drop your child/ren at the Church in the morning of the last day of term, Tuesday 18th December. We will be having a special Christmas Church Service before walking back to the school before lunch. Families are warmly invited to join us for the service.
