Bentley Weekly Update 15/03/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘after’ and ‘over’

Yr1/2 - ‘evaluate’ and ‘specification’

Hedgehogs – ‘equivalent’ and ‘exasperate’

Adders – ‘consensus’ and ‘amalgamate’

Sports Day and Photos – We realise it is looking quite a way ahead, but for those of you who would like to book the day off work, we are pleased to confirm that the planned date for this year’s sports day is Tuesday 25th June. More information will be sent out closer to the time but we wanted to give you as much notice as possible. Because of this date, we have changed the day for the whole school and leavers photos to Friday 28th June.

Calendar Dates – The calendar on the website has been updated with dates for every event we currently have in the calendar up to and beyond the end of this academic year. Please keep an eye on the calendar for information.

Science Week –A huge well done to all staff and children for their fantastic creations as part of science week; we were so impressed with the designs the children came up with this week. They enjoyed visits from Polar explorer, Ricky Mundy, and EBHS Science lead Mike Chapman to support design ideas and scientific investigation. Big thank you to Mrs Duff for organising such a successful and memorable learning experience; watch this space for some budding engineers of the future! Thank you also to parents for coming along and joining in with the fun in the afternoon, it really made for a wonderful atmosphere!

Comic Relief – The children really have done so well with their sponsorship to raise funds for this fab charity. Most sponsorship forms or £1 donations have come in today, but if you haven’t had a chance to bring yours in yet, please send it in on Monday. We will then do a count up on Monday for the total amount raised. A big thank you to all our families for supporting this good cause.

Local Events – Just a quick reminder that there is a page on the website with information about local events and clubs that you may be interested in. We would particularly like to draw you attention to an LGBTQ event coming up later this year; a poster with all the information can be found on the school website at http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/serve_file/328424

Parent Consultations – Those of you with the School Spider App will already be aware that slots for the parent consultations are now open on the website. Please log in with your parent log in details and book a slot to see your child’s teacher. If you have forgotten your log in details, please let us know and we will get them reissued to you.

Spelling Bee – Congratulations to our Adders team who represented the school at this year’s Spelling Bee held at EBHS; out of nine teams, the Bentley Bees came 2nd and brought home medals!! Well done, super performance.

Prayer Space: Big Questions Day – Next Tuesday we have another prayer space day planned, focussing on the ‘big questions’. Today’s sad events in New Zealand may prompt questions over the weekend from your children and we will spend some time on Tuesday looking at conflict in religions and faiths and will do our best to answer those difficult questions to support any discussions at home.
