Bentley Weekly Update 17/05/19

Walk to School Week As you will have seen on the calendar, it is walk to school week next week, and to support this, Mrs Duff will be at the War Memorial at 8:30am every day next week to lead a walking bus to school. Mrs Duff will be keeping a register of children who join in, and every child who walks to school every day next week will get 2 brain stickers at the end of the week!!!

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘front’ and ‘thick’

Yr1/2 - ‘shoreline’ and ‘mudflats’

Hedgehogs – ‘obtain’ and ‘previous’

Adders – ‘indignant’ and ‘surreptitiously’

Let Them Eat Cake! – The lovely Sue (Kasper’s mummy) has very kindly said that she we will be bringing cakes and biscuits for all the workers tomorrow who make it to the chicken move and grounds day. Just a reminder that we will be here from 9am to 3pm, and any help would be so, so appreciated. Bring gardening tools with you if you can or just yourself. Children are very welcome also.

KS2 Football Club – We still have a handful of places left for the KS2 (Hedgehogs and Adders) football club next half term. Please see last week’s update for details of dates and costs. If you would like a place for your child, please let us know by this coming Thursday, 23rd May.

Hedgehogs Drumming Performance – Don’t forget, Hedgehogs will be performing some African Drumming music this coming Wednesday, 22nd May, at 9:50am. Join us if you can.

Stag Beetles – You may remember a number of weeks ago, a sheet came home to fill in if you see any stag beetle. The super knowledgeable Mr Hawes is coming in on Thursday to do an assembly on these amazing creatures and to collect any completed forms. If you have seen a stag beetle this year, please send your completed forms in by Thursday please.

Year 4 Sleepover – Our exciting annual Year 4 sleepover is planned for Friday 14th June. Please see the letter that already been sent home for details of timings and activities. Please ensure permission slips and visit forms are completed and returned to school before half term.

Wolves Toy With a French Label - Children in Wolves class can bring a small toy into school next Monday 20th May providing that they have a label on it with their name and the French word for their toy e.g. une voiture, un ballon.

Online Safety Reminder - Mrs Rudge spoke to all the children who play online on games such as Fortnite, Fifa, Minecraft using their headsets to chat, following some ongoing issues outside of school.  It is reassuring to hear from the children that some parents are checking security and privacy settings, monitoring who their children are friends with online, and being present in the room when their children are online and listening to conversations on headsets.  We also spoke about the importance of sorting out disagreements just as they would do on the playground, by explaining their feelings, listening to the other person, ignoring or blocking children they didn't want to play with online and by talking to an adult in school or at home if there are any ongoing situations which concern them.  Please do come and ask Mrs Rudge if you need any further guidance on keeping your children safe online.

Local Events/Clubs – Just a quick reminder that there is a wealth of information and ideas of what to do with the children in holiday time under the Local Clubs and Events tab on the website. This can be found within the School Information tab.

Communication Survey – Watch out for a survey that will be winging its way out to you in the next week or so about communication in school.

Free School Meal Eligibility – Many families are unaware that their child may be entitled to Free School Meals and we would love to catch those families who may have fallen through the net. If you would be willing to fill in a very short eligibility check sheet, please let us know and we will get one sent home to you.

Year 5/6 Netball Competition – 8 children from Adders have been selected to take part in the netball competition at Ipswich School next Tuesday, 21st May. We wish them lots of luck. Parents of those children taking part have been emailed with the details today.

And Finally……CONGRATULATIONS YEAR 6 – You worked so hard this week and did your best when it came to the SATs. We have been so impressed with the attitude you have displayed and the determination you have shown. You should be very proud of yourselves! WELL DONE JC
