Bentley Weekly Update 28/06/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘invent’ and ‘discover’

Yr1/2 - ‘impeccable’ and ‘sorrow’

Hedgehogs – ‘prohibit’ and ‘diminishing’

Adders – ‘oxidation’ and ‘fundamental’

Thank you – To James (Isabelle and Charlotte’s Dad) who gave up his time over the weekend to come to the school with his strimmer and deal with a veritable jungle of overgrowth around the grounds. It really made a difference and is very much appreciated.

Thank you – To the PTA for setting up the gazebos to shelter the children at sports day and generously providing every child with an ice pole on the day. The cool treat was appreciated by children after all that running around!

Thank you – To Giles (Nicholas’ Dad) who has done so, so much in the grounds in recent weeks, much of which involved long ladders!

Thank you – To Sally, Chris and James (Frankie’s family) for helping out with so many things including Walk to School Wednesday every week, building and mending things and lending a frying pan to Adders!

Thank you – And a final thank you to all the families who came along to Sports Day on Tuesday and made it one of the most enjoyable Sports Days we’ve ever had! We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

Blue Cross – We had our special assemblies this week with a lady from the Blue Cross talking about the work they do and how to stay safe around dogs. We were very pleased, as a result of the generosity of our families, to be able to hand her a cheque for £88 for the charity. The Dress in Blue day was a lot of fun and we are very grateful to Aimee (Poppy, Hugo and Molly’s mum) for giving up her whole day to paint the faces of the children; lots of pictures have been put up on the gallery section of the website.

PTA news! - We are just 2 weeks away from our Summer Fair! Lots of hard work and organising is currently going on behind the scenes. A big thank you to all who contributed to our Tombola yesterday, you have donated some amazing items!

We are on the hunt for some items for our Fair; odd socks, the brighter and more unusual, the better! Empty 2 litre bottles; as many as possible please! We also need some more gazebos, the weather looks to be lovely and warm, and we really need some for shade over the games and stalls. If you have one or two we can borrow, please do let us know. We will also be asking for cake donations to be sold on our refreshments stall.

We have some exciting news to announce! The father's day event raised enough to cover our last payment towards the new gym equipment (coming very soon!) We have decided that all money raised at our Fair will go towards the iPads the children so desperately need. We hope we can make this year a big success and raise lots to benefit the children of our lovely school.

Maths Bags and Library Books – Please return maths bags and library books asap. Maths bags need to be in by next Friday, 5th July, and library books by Friday 12th July at the very latest. No more library books will be coming home this academic year. Thank you.

Homework - Design an Altar Cloth Competition – All the children took part in a Prayer Space afternoon this week. One of the activities was to design an Altar Cloth. The pupils have been set the challenge of designing an Altar Cloth as a homework activity. Each child has been given a sheet to draw their design on; the sheet has also been attached to the weekly news email that you all receive and can be found in the letters section of the website also. The original closing date was this coming Monday, but as Adders are out, this has been extended to Wednesday. This is a homework task, not just a competition so all designs need to be in by Wednesday please.

Federation Music Day – Just a quick reminder that all children need to dropped at Copdock Village Hall on Thursday, between 8:45 to 9:00am, to take part in a day of fun and musicality. Parents must supervise their children on site before the start of the day; they will not be allowed in the hall until 8:45am. All children will need a packed lunch and drinks. No bags to be brought on this day please. The two performances (one at 11am and one at 2pm) will be strictly ticket only. At the end of the day, Key Stage 1 children will be in the hall for parents to collect, Key Stage 2 children will be grouped outside in their respective classes, for parents to collect. Hopefully that will alleviate some of the issues around crowding. If you have children in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, please collect your younger ones from the hall first.

Year 5 and 6 on 11th July – All Adders parents have had an email sent to you about the respective activities the children will be taking part in on the day. The letter can also be found in the letters section of the website if needed.

Year 5 Computer Science Day – Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of visits and other exciting activities we have planned this half term, we have had to make the difficult decision to not go to this event at the High School this year. On the upside, at least that’s one less packed lunch to have to remember!

Bentley School's Christian Ethos

"Know that I am with you always," Matthew 28:20 We encourage the spiritual, social, moral and cultural development of the school family by embedding Christian values into everyday life. Our vision is for all children to be confident individuals, successful learners and responsible citizens who are well equipped for future life, knowing that God is with them always.
