Copdock Weekly Update 05/07/19

Newsletter – 5th July 2019

THIS WEEK:

Elections:  Following a rigorous process of speeches, elections and interviews, the following children have been offered the positions of Head Pupils for next year: William & Eleanor.  Congratulations to all of the candidates who conducted themselves in a very mature manner.  Next week sees the attention of the voters turn towards the School Council.

Induction & Class Swap:  On Wednesday morning, whilst year 6 were visiting their new schools, the children had the opportunity to reconnoitre where they will be learning next year.  Mrs Collins and Mrs North both came in to see Woodpeckers, whilst Mrs Windmill reacquainted herself with the Foxes from September.  KS1 children explored their familiar territory with year 1s visiting the hub to get to know their new environment.

Federation Music Show:  Many thanks to everyone who came to the performances at the Federation Music Show this week.  It was really well supported and everyone seemed to enjoy the experience.  Whilst we are happy for you to have photos and videos of your own children, please do not share any images on social media of anyone but your own child.

Coffee & Chat:  We would like to thank those parents who attended the coffee and chat session this morning with a focus on relationships.  We hope you found the session useful and have gained some insight from what was on display.

New Starters Lunches:  Today our new starters stayed for lunch.  They joined in with our fishy Friday menu or brought along a packed lunch just like all the other children.  They will do likewise next week too.  They all appeared to enjoy it.

NEXT WEEK:

School Council Speeches:  Following on from the successful Head Pupil election process this week, we see the candidates for School Council take to the stage next week to gain votes from their colleagues.

Minsmere Trip:  On Tuesday, Woodpeckers and Hedgehogs from Bentley will be taking a trip to Minsmere Nature Reserve to enhance their recent topic learning.  Please see the letter on the website for the list of things they need to remember to bring including packed lunches.  Pupils will need to be in school early on the day to ensure the bus can leave on time.

Foxes Flute Recital:  Parents are invited into school on Wednesday morning at 9am to hear how Foxes have progressed this term with their flute playing.

Top Class Photos:  For those parents of children in year 6, you may wish to pick up a souvenir copy of the Ipswich Star on Wednesday as it will contain a photograph of the class to mark their progression to high school.

School Reports:  We are aiming to send home school reports next Wednesday.  As the majority of the information will be contained in Learning Journeys, parents will need to collect these from class on Wednesday to ensure the right report goes home with the right child.

Foxes Thursday:  Please see the letter on the website regarding Foxes activities on 11th July.  Year 6 will be heading to West Suffolk College to take part in an exciting science day.  Whilst they are out, year 5 will be taking part in Forest School activities in the copse.  Again, please see the letter to ensure your child has the correct equipment for their day.

Guitar:  The last couple of guitar lessons will be taking place this coming week and the following one.  Unfortunately we are not able to offer this for the autumn term.

Cake Sale:  The PTA will be hosting a special one-off cake sale after school on Thursday 11th to raise funds for the resources and prizes for the summer fayre the following Friday (19th).  Please support this event by bringing in your pennies at the end of the day and sampling the spoils on offer.

Kidzfest Tickets:  The PTA have a family ticket for 4 to Kidzfest valid on either 20th or 21st July worth around £40.  We will be selling raffle tickets to win this at the cake sale after school on Thursday and again after school on Friday - 50p a ticket or a strip of 5 for £2.

Final New Starters Session:  Next week sees the new starters in for their final induction session where they will again be staying for lunch and a play.  It has been lovely to get to know them and we look forward to welcoming them and their families in September.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • As we are rapidly approaching the end of the school year, we would appreciate you taking the time to have a look around at home and returning any library books or equipment to school so that we can do a ‘stock take’ ahead of the new academic year.
  • We are also looking to ensure all monies have been collected and banked before the end of term so please bear this in mind with regard to hot dinners, and ensure deadlines for trip payments are adhered to.
  • As we are only going to be doing the residential trip every other year for Foxes, we are looking at organising an activity week in September, to potentially include activities such as fencing and canoeing to name but a few.  Look out for a letter coming your way soon.  We just wanted to give a heads up for next year’s Foxes (current year 4 & 5) that there will be a cost involved for some of these activities which we will notify you of once we have confirmed the arrangements.
