Copdock Weekly Update 08/02/19

Newsletter – 8th February 2019

THIS WEEK:

Safer Internet Day:  We have had assemblies and class talks around staying safe online.  Please look at the school website under the safeguarding section for more information.  We will be signing our ‘Acceptable Use’ forms next week.

New Wolsey Performance:  Hedgehogs class joined us from Bentley for an interactive performance by the New Wolsey Theatre of “Based on a True Story”.  The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious adaptation.

Great Vegan Bake-off Final:  Our finalists from both schools have spent the day in the heat of the kitchen at the bake-off final in London.  We eagerly await news of how it has gone.

Vocabulary:  Please encourage your children to use the new vocabulary they have brought home to share with you.  Some will be in the form of a sticker, or written in their books.  If the words are not obvious, ask the children – they should know which words to share this week.  Please use them at home as much as possible.  We will also be adding them to the weekly news as a regular feature.

NEXT WEEK:

Basketball:  Members of Foxes and Adders will be heading to Inspire next Tuesday to participate in a basketball event.  Children will need a packed lunch on that day, and a water bottle.  Please refer to the email sent on Monday for further details.

Tractor Into School:  Woodpeckers will be visited by a farmer and his tractor next week to talk about the agricultural habitat around us and to give them some ideas for a STEM project coming up later in the term.

Reception Shared Learning:  Reception parents are invited in next Friday from 2:10pm to share with their children the learning that has taken place in class this half term.  For years 1-6, their shared learning session will be on the first Friday back from half term.

PTA Quiz Night:  Please ensure you have submitted your entry for the PTA Quiz Night next Friday.  The bar opens at 7:30pm and the quiz kicks off at 8pm in The Pavilion at Copdock & OI Cricket Club.  We look forward to seeing as many teams as possible to raise funds for our school.  Don’t worry if you have an incomplete team, or are an individual, this can always be resolved on the night.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • This week we have been talking about mental health in school and would like to share this article with you about “Boosting a young person’s self-esteem at different ages”:
    https://parentzone.org.uk/article/boosting-young-person%E2%80%99s-self-esteem-different-ages
  • A big thank-you to the members of the school council and Mr Bradley who helped to weed proof and lay the bark around our new outdoor gym equipment.  The area looks absolutely fabulous now it is complete.
  • Upon our return from half term, the after school club will be cross-country for KS2 children.  This is going to be held at Copdock School on Mondays.  Keep an eye out for an email with more details next week as we are looking to start on the first day back – 25th February.
  • After the success of the Books for Schools tokens, the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star are launching a new initiative.  Running from tomorrow, 9th February until 3rd May, they will be publishing Lego Tokens.  Please collect as many as you can and send them into school – either in the post box outside or via the register boxes.
  • We currently have some vacancies on our governing body.  If you, or someone you know might be interested in joining us, please get in touch for further information.  We will be sending information and applications home soon.
  • Just a gentle reminder to parents that if you change arrangements for picking your child up, particularly if it involves either going to or no longer going to, after school club at the pre-school, please do let the school office know so that a message can get to the class teacher to ensure the pupils know where to go.
