Copdock Weekly Update 13/09/19

Newsletter – 13th September 2019

THIS WEEK:

Welcome Event:  Thank you to all parents who attended the parents welcome event on 11th September; we were pleased that so many of you were able to attend.  We have heard some positive feedback from some of you but please do send us any further comments you may wish to share.  As always, we appreciate that having more than one child makes it difficult to attend both classes.  Hopefully you still got a chance to speak to teachers from other classes too.  We will be adding the information leaflets to the website so you can access them electronically at your leisure – Mr Ross’s is attached to the email.  Thank you once again for attending.  We look forward to working in partnership with you this year and beyond.

Horrible Histories:  On Thursday Foxes Class joined Adders for a trip to the Regent Theatre to watch the Horrible Histories Awful Egyptians show as a start to their topic.  Whilst wearing our 3D glasses we had rocks, serpents, jewels and mummies thrown at us.  We watched how bodies were mummified including how the brain was removed because it was considered useless!  Hopefully this has raised some new questions that we can now start to answer as our topic continues.

NEXT WEEK:

Flutes:  Pupils in year 6 have the opportunity to continue their flute learning during lunchtimes on a Tuesday, starting next week.  If you haven’t already responded to the email sent during the week, please do so in order for us to confirm numbers to the music service.

Lego Club:  We are reintroducing the lego club on a Wednesday starting next week.  It runs from 3:15-4:15pm for children from Year 2 upwards.  The letter is attached to the email and online booking will be available soon – please keep an eye on their website (https://www.kidswithbricks.com/) over the weekend for details of how to book and pay for the club.

Reception Forest Schools:  Next Friday the reception class will start their outdoor learning with their first Forest Schools session.  They will need to bring into school a change of clothes and some wellies in a named bag to change into on Friday afternoon.  These will be returned home.  Years 1 & 2 will need their Forest Schools clothes on Friday 27th – they will participate alternate weeks.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • The Parish Council are hosting a consultation at the school on Saturday 21st September from 11am to 3pm to discuss the proposed housing in the area.  The PTA are going to provide refreshments for the drop-in session, but would appreciate some more volunteers to spread the load.  If you could spare an hour or so to help serve teas and coffees please contact the school office so that we can pass your details onto the PTA.  Thank you in advance.
  • Many of you will already be familiar with the fact that we look at different values each half term as a focus in our learning and for assemblies.  This half term the value is ‘Generosity’.  Please have a look at the leaflet attached to the newsletter email as it gives ideas and activities you can do at home to explore this value further.  All the leaflets for the year are on the Christian Ethos page of the website http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/page/christian-ethos/21108
  • As we do each year, we are hosting a MacMillan Coffee Event from 2:30pm in the school hall on Friday 27th September – everyone is welcome.  Please see the posters around school and the village for more details.  During this event we have secured a unique opportunity for parents to try their hand at Fencing for a donation to MacMillan.
  • Please remember if any items are provided by school following any kind of accident (ie items of uniform), please ensure they are cleaned and returned as soon as possible.
  • Topic plans will all be available on the class pages of the website.  These are useful for exploring our topics further at home.  Why not take a look at the class pages http://www.bentleycopdock.co.uk/classes
  •  Due to an exciting musical opportunity which has arisen for Foxes, which clashes with their first Whole Class Assembly on 11th October, we have moved the start time of the assembly to 9am instead of the previously advertised 2:45pm.  We apologise for any inconvenience but hope that the advanced notice is beneficial.
  • Please see below for the breakdown of Activity Week for Foxes.  Further details of what is required on each day and timings are included in the letter sent home this week.  It is also available on the website.  Please ensure the form is returned by Wednesday.
  • On Tuesday 24th, all children will have the chance to see the circus team and take part in some exciting circus skills workshops.  The Circus will be putting on 2 performances of their show; the first will be at 6pm on Monday 23rd, the second at 3:45pm on Wednesday 25th.  Tickets are £8 on the door but the school offices have tickets available to purchase at the reduced rate of just £6 per person!  During the live performances, children have the opportunity to take part in the shows and demonstrate the skills they have learnt.  Please see the letter attached to the newsletter email for more details.
  • Year 6 Parents were directed toward the letter attached to last weeks’ email, you are now able to apply for a high school place, the deadline is Thursday 31st October.  Please see the letter for further instructions.
