Copdock Weekly Update 14/06/19

Newsletter – 14th June 2019

THIS WEEK:

Year 1 Phonics Screening:  Mr Ross says a big WELL DONE to all the children who took part in the phonics screening this week.  Your child’s results will be reported to you in the end of year reports next month.

QuadKids:  Unfortunately, due to the weather, the QuadKids event had to be cancelled this week – it is the first time in 11 years that the event has succumbed to the weather.  Sadly for us, as this is such a busy term, we are unable to attend on the rescheduled date.

PTA Dress Down:  The PTA, and therefore the school, are very grateful for all of the items donated today for the summer fayre.  The children have enjoyed dressing down.  Thank you for supporting this event, see you at the Fayre on 19th July.

New Starters:  This morning we met our new starters for September.  They all looked a little startled initially but soon settled in.  They had a tour of the school and met many new faces.  We look forward to seeing them again next week.

Reception Shared Learning:  It was lovely to see so many reception parents coming in today to share their children’s learning.  The children enjoy being able to share with their grown-ups.

Year 4 Sleepover:  As you read this, the pupils in year 4 from both schools are enjoying an evening of fun, before sleeping over in the school hall at Bentley.  We hope to give you more details next week.

NEXT WEEK:

WCET Festival:  On Monday, Foxes are making their way to the Jerwood Dancehouse where they will spend the morning rehearsing before an afternoon performance.  Pupils will need a packed lunch, drinks and their flute.  Please ensure you have let the office know if you will be attending the performance at 2pm as you will need a ticket, and if you will therefore be taking your child home from the venue, or if they need a lift back to school for collection at the usual time.

Kwik Cricket:  We are sending a Federation squad to St Joseph’s college on Tuesday for a Kwik Cricket festival.  Children participating will require a packed lunch, drinks and sun cream and hat (weather dependent).  They will bring home the Federation PE kit on Monday and should come into school wearing this – they will need uniform to change into for the afternoon back at school.

Great Science Share:  Following our science day at the village hall last term, some of our pupils are going to Suffolk University to share their creations and discuss their experiments with other schools.  Those pupils attending will need to wear school uniform and to bring a packed lunch and drinks.

Crucial Crew:  Foxes continue their busy week with a trip to The Mix in Stowmarket on Wednesday for the Crucial Crew Event.  Here they learn all sorts of aspects of safety.  Those attending will need a packed lunch and drinks.  Please refer to the letter for more details.

Dentist:  A handful of randomly chosen 5 year olds have been invited to take part in a national survey.  This involves a dentist coming into school next week.  If you haven’t already sent your consent form in (a yellow letter) please do so.

Forest Schools:  Next Thursday, Foxes will spend the day doing forest schools.  Please see the email sent on 5th June, pupils will need to wear old clothes, preferably with arms and legs covered.  KS1 children will continue to do forest schools on Fridays so please ensure their change of clothes comes in each week.

Swimming:  Some of our Foxes will be swimming on Friday afternoons for the next 5 weeks.  If you haven’t already completed the reply slip, please can you send it in early next week.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • Over the next couple of weeks we have some different lunch menus for the children.  On Monday 24th we are offering a BBQ style lunch.  Please see the posters around school and on the website, also attached to the weekly news email.  This replaces the usual Week 3 Monday menu on this occasion.  Please note we need choices emailed into the office by Monday 17th in order to fulfil order deadlines.  Anyone who hasn’t ordered this meal will need to bring a packed lunch on the day.
  • As usual, we are offering a grab and go lunch for sports day.  Again, we need to pre-order these so please get your choices and payment into the office by next Tuesday.  If you prefer, or miss the deadline, please bring a packed lunch on the day.  Please refer to the information already sent home by email for more details.
  • As we come towards the end of the school year and start to think about next year.  It is a good time to remind parents of year 2 children that they will no longer be entitled to universal free school meals once they start in key stage 2 in September.  If you think you may be eligible for free school meals, please take a look at the poster on the school website and visit www.suffolk.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals for details on how to apply.
  • You may have seen posters appearing around school for the Head Pupil & School Council elections.  Just to advise parents if their child is thinking of standing for election and they would like to support their child at home with speech writing, the important dates are:  1st July – Head Pupil Speeches; 3rd July – Head Pupil Interviews; 8th July – School Council Speeches – we invite School Council candidates from KS1 & KS2.
  • Please see the poster in the information and events section of the website about the fantastic County Ensemble programme.  They have asked us to share the following:  Join a County Ensemble to take part in European concert tours, a residential course at Framlingham College, exciting performances in prestigious concert halls, and more!  Run by the County Music Service, these orchestras and bands offer fantastic opportunities throughout the year.  Suitable for children and young people aged up to 21-years-old, from Grade 4+ standard (or equivalent).  For more information and to apply please visit their website http://bit.ly/County19-20  Applications close on Wednesday 10 July.
