Copdock Weekly Update 15/03/19

Newsletter – 15th March 2019

THIS WEEK:

Spelling Bee:  The children from Foxes who attended the Spelling Bee had a brilliant morning.  They finished 4th out of 9 schools, narrowly missing 3rd spot!  Even the reserves that went along were put into a team, one of which finished in 6th place!  Our Federation friends at Bentley finished in 2nd place – a huge well done to them.  Thank you to all those who supported the spellers either at home or on the day.

Science Day:  KS1 children were joined by their counterparts from Bentley on Thursday, they divided into groups to work together to build a boat.  They had a visit from a naval officer who talked to them about what they had been doing.

KS2 children from both schools worked together at the Village Hall to create some vehicles.  They had done some preparation prior to the day spent together.  Parents were able to go along and see what they had designed and built.

A huge well done to all staff and children for their fantastic creations as part of science week.  They enjoyed visits from our Polar explorer and EBHS Science lead Mike Chapman to support design ideas and scientific investigation.  A very big thank you to Mrs Duff for organising a successful learning experience.  Watch this space for some budding engineers of the future!  Thank you to parents for coming and joining in the fun at the Village Hall.

Comic Relief:  Today, staff and children came into school wearing something red for Comic Relief.  Mr Ross’ twin brother ‘Wally’ spent the day trying to make people laugh with varying degrees of success.  Everybody was asked to donate 50p for the charity and we have collected a brilliant £46.10 for this worthy cause.  Thank you for your contribution.

NEXT WEEK:

Phonic Screening Meeting:  Year 1 parents are invited to come along to school next Tuesday at 2:30pm to hear about and discuss with Mr Ross the phonics screening that will take place later in the year.

Able Maths:  Those children taking part in the Able Maths Day should already have details of the event to be held at Handford Hall.  We hope they have an enjoyable day.

Audax Cycle Ride:  It is never too late to offer to help at the cycle ride next Saturday.  You can do so by donating refreshments, or your time to serve them.  Please contact Rachel Bradley, her details were on the email sent 6th March.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • You can now book your appointment for the upcoming Parent Consultations via the school website.  Ideally your child should accompany you to the appointment.  Please ensure you make a note of the date and time of the slot you book to avoid missing it as there are very limited opportunities to re-arrange.  If you do not know your login details please contact the school office.  Should you experience any difficulties with booking a slot, please contact the office for assistance.
  • Copdock Primary School has been invited to be the ITFC School of the Day for their match against Birmingham City on Saturday 13th April!  As a result, we have 50 pairs of tickets (1 adult & 1 child) up for grabs!  The fairest way to divide these tickets out is by a ballot – if you would like to be entered into the ballot, please contact the school office by Friday 29th March at the latest.  Recipients will be notified on the last day of term at the Easter Headwear Parade.
  • We have a trickle of Lego Tokens coming into the office but are still way off our target.  Please keep collecting them from the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star daily until 3rd May.  You can send tokens in via the register boxes or the post box by the gate, one at a time or in bulk.  Please take a look at the note on the information section of our school website for dates of extra tokens – this Saturday is one of them!
  • On the last day of term, the PTA and the school will be joining forces to organise an Easter Egg hunt from 2pm.  Parents are invited to join in with their child for a small donation.  Any children whose parents are unable to attend will be paired up with an older child to participate.  Once the hunt is complete, the headwear parade will commence at 2:30pm.
  • A date for your diary – we will be offering a special Easter Lunch on Thursday 4th April for the children!  The options are sausagemeat or vegetable plait, jacket wedges, tomato sauce dip, baton carrots and garden peas.  For dessert an ‘Easter Nest’ comprising of a meringue nest filled with ice cream and topped with fruit.  KS1 children are able to order this special lunch as part of the universal free school meals, KS2 children will be charged £2.40 as usual.  Please note, jacket potatoes are available on this day.
  • Can we please direct Foxes parents to look at the attachment to the newsletter email as we have been asked to share this information with you about Operation Sceptre.  Please consider sharing this with your child as an awareness of behaviour and the law.
  • Don’t forget to support the PTA and send your form back to join in the Chocolate Bingo fun on Saturday 30th March.  Entries need to be in by next Friday please.
  • There is still time to complete and return the form regarding Free School Meal entitlement if you haven’t already done so.  If eligible, the entitlement assists not just families, but also the school on an on-going basis.  The form is available on the website.  Please return the completed form to the office as soon as possible.  All details remain confidential throughout the process.
