Adders Monday 18th May 2020

Date: 15th May 2020 @ 1:24pm

Good morning, Adders.  I hope you enjoyed your weekend; this is the last week before we have a well-earned half term break.  You have all done so well keeping up with your learning at home – I am proud of you all.  I will aim to speak to all Year 5s this week as well as Eva, Francesca and Isabelle.

The theme for this week is Animals which enables you to learn more about key animals you are interested in and has a science theme. All the learning for this week is outlined on the overview sheet in your printed pack and all the relevant reading, maths, spelling/grammar and topic activity sheets have been put together in your second plastic wallet.

Remember:  It is important that you are completing some Maths and English activities every day (if you can) to keep up those key skills.  The topic activities are there to give you something else to focus on and practise other important skills based on science, art, history and geography.

Your parents should have received an email on Friday about the Collective Worship ‘Worship at Home: Love’ activities.  Please make sure that you are choosing an activity to complete as often as you can.  You can download the activities on this blog.

This is the learning that I would like you to complete today:

  • Arithmetic Test 25 OR 15 minutes TT Rockstars.
  • Reading – ‘Common Descent’ Reading Comprehension in your printed pack.  You can answer in your homework book or discuss the answers orally with an adult.
  • Spellings – spend 20 minutes on Spelling Shed on different assignments.
  • Maths – Y5: Over the next five days you need to complete the following problem solving activities from your printed pack.  I don’t mind in which order you complete these:
  • Escape the Room
  • Lost in the Forest
  • The Mystery of the Ribbonless Maypole
  • The Mystery of the Pilfered Penguins
  • Maths – Y6: Over the next five days you need to complete the following consolidation activities.  I don’t mind in which order you complete them:
  • Geometry – Position and Direction
  • Geometry – Properties of Shape
  • Algebra
  • Measures – Perimeter, Area and Volume
  • Statistics
  • Maths – ED/LW/FD/IF/JL: Classroom Secrets sheets – Geometry: Properties of Shapes ‘Quadrilaterals’ Varied Fluency and Reasoning + Problem Solving.
  • Science – Animals and their Environment:  Describe how animals, such as Emperor Penguins, chimpanzees, lizards, camels and orcas have adapted to suit their environment; carry out some research using the internet. After this, design a new wondrous animal that has evolved to suit its environment considering the environmental changes it has had to face over recent years.  Draw and label your new animal, identifying how it has adapted to its environment.  If you have time, write a description of your animal.
