Adders Monday 4th May 2020

Date: 1st May 2020 @ 12:49pm

Good morning, Adders.  I hope you enjoyed your weekend and managed to have some ‘down time’ from your studies.  I am SO impressed with your learning and how committed you have been to completing the tasks I have set as well as sending me photos of them and your documents.  The ‘Come Dine With Me’ activity really made some of your creative juices flow and the dishes you created looked so yummy; I hope your family enjoyed eating them.

The theme for this week is Celebrations linked to the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday (which is a bank holiday so we all have a day off!).   All the learning for this week is outlined on the overview sheet in your printed pack and all the relevant reading, topic activity sheets have been put together with a paperclip.

Your parents should have received an email on Friday about the Collective Worship ‘Worship at Home: Hope’ activities.  Please make sure that you are choosing an activity to complete as often as you can.  You can download the activities on this blog.  I would love to see a photo of the origami eagle or if you take a photo of 'hope'.

This is the learning that I would like you to complete today:

  • Arithmetic Test 17 OR 15 minutes TT Rockstars.
  • Reading – VE Day Reading Comprehension in your printed pack.  You have an answer page to use for your answers.  Please answer in full sentences.  I will post the answers on the Answer page on Adders Class part of the website tomorrow.
  • Spellings – spend 20 minutes on Spelling Shed on different assignments.

Maths – Y5: Over the next four days you need to complete the following from your printed pack:

  • Line Graphs pages 70-71; CGP 2017 Line Graphs pages 159 + 161 set B or C (NP, you have pages 158 + 160 Set A);
  • Tables + Timetables pages 72-72; CGP 2017 Tables page 163 + Timetables page 165 set B or C (NP, you have pages 162 and 164 Set A);
  • Statistics Challenges pages 167-168 (NP, please go on any Classroom Secrets Kids game or TT Rockstars when you’ve finished).

Maths – Y6: Over the next four days you need to complete the following from your Y6 Workout Book, printed pack and practice SATs papers:

  • Workout Book: Pages 82-83 ‘Tables and Pictograms’; pages 84-85 ‘Bar Charts + Line Graphs’;  CGP in your pack pages 72-73 ‘Line Graphs’;
  • Workout Book: Page 86; CGP in your pack pages 70-71 ‘Pie Charts’;
  • Workout Book: Page 87; CGP in your pack pages 74-75 ‘The Mean’;
  • Workout Book: Pages 88-89 Mixed Practice;
  • SAT Arithmetic Set B.

Maths – ED/LW/FD/IF/JL: Classroom Secrets sheets – ‘Kilometres' Varied Fluency and Reasoning + Problem Solving.  If time, complete the Homework/Extension and Discussion Problems.

  • Topic – Planning a VE Celebration: You need to plan an imaginary celebration for this year’s 75th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May. You have £150 to spend and 25 guests will be attending. What will the money be spent on? You will need to plan the celebration considering the location of the event, how you will decorate the venue, what your guests will eat and drink and how you will entertain their guests. You will also need to detail the timings of the event and any timings for preparation.  Obviously this won’t be able to happen in its entirety due to Coronavirus and social distancing, so you could take elements of your plan to use on Friday when you celebrate with your family.
  • Physical Exercise – any activity that is going to give you 60 minutes of exercise.

There is a new discussion when you log on to the website that you can upload any photos of your learning and ask any questions that you have.  Alternatively, please email me directly on the address you have in your printed pack.

I have included a Statistics Knowledge Organiser for each year group at the bottom of this blog in case you are finding the maths a bit of a challenge.

Enjoy your day Adders!
