Bentley Weekly Update 08/11/19

Words of The Week

Rec – ‘large’ and ‘backwards’

Yr1/2 - ‘herbivore’ and ‘omnivore’

Hedgehogs – ‘flawless’ and ‘livid’

Adders – ‘revelation’ and ‘methodical’

Anti-bullying Week - As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we will be speaking to each class about Online Safety, and this is a good time to consider having those important conversations at home too.  These are the ten key messages that should be shared with children:

  1. "You can always come to me if you need help."
  2. "What would you do if this happened…?"
  3. "Remember that not everyone is who they say they are online."
  4. "Keep your personal information safe, and other people’s too."
  5. "Be respectful to others online."
  6. "Think before you post."
  7. "Remember to ask if it’s okay."
  8. "Remember not everything is true online."
  9. "The things other people post online might not always show what their life is really like."
  10. "Recognise how going online makes you feel and take a break when you need to."
Attached to the weekly news are also 2 factsheets about YouTube and TikTok for parents to make sure that your children are using them safely.  These can also be found on the Online Safety tab of our website - follow the School Information Tab, then Curriculum and Assessment and then Online Safety.  Also watch out for our Digital Parenting Magazine in book-bags next week, to help support you further.

Children in Need – This year’s Children in Need will take place on Friday 15th November. The children of the school council have come up with a couple of plans to help raise money for this wonderful charity. Children are invited to come to school in non-uniform on the day and wear something yellow (or Children in Need merchandise) in return for a minimum £1 donation. We will also be trying to cover a giant picture of Pudsy’s face with 1p and 2p coins so please do send in any spare coppers you might have. Thank you.

Snack Shop – The trial snack shop was a huge success so the School Council have decided to carry it on from Monday. As before, items will cost just 10p each and children are limited to spending a maximum of 20p a day. The school council would like to thank parents for supporting this venture and generously sending your children in with cash to make the purchases during the trial.

Aldi Stickers – If you have any of the Aldi stickers at home, please do bring them in. We are still quite short of completing the poster so every sticker counts! Thank you.

Memorial Service – Please do come along and join us at the Bentley War Memorial at 10:50am on Monday 11th November. There will be a last chance to buy poppies and other remembrance items as they will be available for sale on Monday morning on the playground.

Recycling Exhibition – Thank you to all those family members who made it to Copdock Village Hall to see the children’s hard work. It was lovely that so many grown-ups came along to support the event.

Odd Socks for Anti-bullying Week – Children are invited to wear odd socks from Tuesday to Friday next week for Anti-bullying Week. The head pupils will be leading an assembly to explain all.

Parent Consultations – Slots are now available to book on the website for children in years 1, 2, 5 and 6. If you have any trouble logging in, please get in touch with the school office.
