Copdock Weekly Update 04/10/19

Newsletter – 4th October 2019

THIS WEEK:

Flatford Mill Trip:  On Monday Foxes joined Adders class at Flatford Mill for the final part of their activity week.  It was a lovely day in the sunshine as they set about doing some field studies to compare a river with a stream.  They had to measure the widths and depths of the river and stream as well as getting to play Pooh Sticks to measure the velocity.  Finally, they got to get into the water to search for what might be living there.  Despite some wet socks and trousers they all had a good time and got to learn a bit more about the hydrological cycle and where some of our water is going.

Space Explorers Menu:  Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered the Space Explorers lunch as requested.  We hope the children enjoyed trying something different.  As we order our food in from another kitchen, it is important for us to respect the deadlines which they give to us for these special menu days.  We try not to do too many in the year, but please do keep an eye on the newsletter and noticeboards around school to ensure you are aware of them and when orders need to be received.  Thank you for your understanding.

Flu Immunisation:  As per the email sent earlier this week, the flu immunisations have been postponed, we will let you know once we have a new date confirmed.  However, the portal has been reopened so if you hadn’t been on to register or withdraw your child, please do so via https://tinyurl.com/yyoqj2hx

Whole Class Assembly:  This week has seen the first of our newly introduced whole class assemblies with Foxes leading the way.  They’ve had a very busy start to the term and therefore lots of information and stories to share.  Thank you to everyone who came along to hear more, we hope you enjoyed it.

NEXT WEEK:

Harvest:  Next Thursday sees our Harvest celebrations.  The children will be spending the afternoon at the church.  Parents are invited to attend our Harvest Service at 2:30pm at the church.  Children will need to be collected from the church at 3:15pm.  We are very lucky to be able to offer parking at Copdock Hall for this event.  Any children attending the after school club will be transported back – please ensure we are aware who is attending and therefore who requires a lift by emailing the office.  We would appreciate some parent volunteers to help us with the walk up to the church after lunch, if you are able to spare the time, please contact the office.  Please ensure the children have jackets and suitable footwear for walking to the church across the fields.

Swingle Singers:  Foxes are able to have a hot dinner if they wish on Friday ahead of their trip as they will be travelling after lunch.  They SHOULD return by the end of the day depending on traffic.  We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3 to be paid by Monday to help with the cost of transportation please.  Any queries with payment please contact the office.

Forest Schools:  Next Friday all of year 1 and year 2 will be doing Forest Schools and will therefore need a change of clothes

OTHER ITEMS:

  • We are still missing a handful of DATA COLLECTION FORMS.  It is a statutory requirement that we collect this information each year.  This forms the information which we hold about you and your child on our system.  If the information is incorrect or inaccurate, you may not receive the notifications you need as the year progresses.
  • Please note there has been a change of date for the PTA AGM.  This will now be hosted at the school on Thursday 17th October at 7:30pm – we apologise for this change, but would welcome everyone along.
  • Thank you to everybody who supported our MACMILLAN COFFEE EVENT last week.  We raised £181 in total – thank you for the cake and monetary donations.  A wonderful amount for a worthy cause.
  • A date for your diary – on Friday 1st November we will be hosting our SHARED LEARNING from 2:45pm (or 2:15pm if you have more than one child in school) where the children can show you what they have been doing in class.  Prior to that, from 1:30pm that afternoon there will be maths being taught in all of the classes.  Parents are welcome to come along and see how we use resources and support children in their learning.  More details to follow after half term.
  • You should have received an email earlier this week giving you the opportunity to buy UNIFORM.  We tend to do an order each term but the deadline is quite tight so it is important that you reply swiftly once the invite is sent.  The deadline for orders is Monday 7th October so please ensure all requests are sent in before then.
  • For the eagle-eyed of you, there is a new option on the website home page.  If you are considering taking your child to ROLLERWORLD OR QUASAR please book through this icon.  If you book a session or a party through our website the school receives a credit – once we hit a specified number of credits we get rewards which we are then able to share with our families.
  • We have been trialling the use of SCHOOL WATER BOTTLES this term.  On the whole we have had a lot of success with children drinking more water during the day.  We have also listened to feedback and as a result, if you would like to take the bottles home at the end of the day, please speak to your child’s teacher.  The school water bottle needs to be in school EVERY day and can only contain water.  Thank you for your continued support.
  • Further to our request last week, please send in any clean and dry PLASTIC BOTTLE TOPS from any size bottle for us to use as art resources.
  • Don’t forget to keep an eye on the KIDS WITH BRICKS website for the weekly competition.  The children are learning about Vikings and this week built a Longhouse – Isabelle was voted the winner and hopefully her quick build will appear on the website where you’ll be able to vote for it.
