Copdock Weekly Update 08/11/19

Newsletter – 8th November 2019

THIS WEEK:

Bonfire Lunch:  This week we had 37 children participate in the special themed lunch on Tuesday, which was 13 more than we were expecting.  Thankfully on this occasion the kitchen were able to supply us with the required number of meals.  It is really important when we have a special menu that they are pre-ordered by the required date.  Please keep an eye out for the Christmas Lunch menu which will be coming your way soon!  Check the website for dates.

Open the tent:  On Tuesday, the Year 3 & 4 children from Copdock and Bentley listened, captivated, to whispered words from far away.  In a darkened room decked with exotic fabrics and sparkling with colourful lights, the story of Rama and Sita was brought to life for them by the storytellers from Open the Tent in Sproughton Village Hall in celebration of the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Federation Recycling Day:  On Thursday the children made their way in the drizzle to the Village Hall to explore and share their exhibition pieces with the Federation and parents and friends.  A big thank you to everyone who came to have a look at what the children have been working on.

Foundation Shared Learning:  It was lovely to see so many Foundation parents come to share in the maths workshop and shared learning session with their children.  We hope you enjoyed the session.

Village Tidy-Up:  If you can spare some time on Saturday, please meet at the Church Room in The Street to join in with Copdock & Washbrook Village Tidy-up day.  Equipment will be provided but please bring your own gloves.  For further details, please contact Tina on 730162.

NEXT WEEK:

Anti-Bullying Week:  As part of the theme of ‘change starts with us’ for anti-bullying week we would like your child to come into school in odd socks from Tuesday 12/11/19 to Friday 15/11/19.  Thank you for your continued support.

Open Events:  Next Wednesday we welcome families of potential new starters for next September to come and look around our school and learn all about us.  We hope that whilst we have visitors on site, the children will take pride in sharing their school experience with them.

School Photos:  Bentley Photographic will be coming into school next Thursday to take photographs of the children and their beautiful smiles.  Please ensure the children come into school wearing their correct uniform along with their grins.

Christmas Cake Club:  Our annual Christmas Cake Club starts next Thursday.  We look forward to seeing the masterpieces as they unfold over the coming weeks.

Children In Need:  For a donation of £1 to Children in Need, we are inviting pupils and staff to come into school wearing bright colours.  ALL of the donations received go directly to Children in Need.

OTHER ITEMS:

  • If your child is in year 1 or 2, please keep an eye out for more information about an ART CLUB being run on Tuesdays from 19th November to 17th December by Mr Ross.  There will be a small contribution required to cover the cost of materials.  The club will run after school from 3:15 to 4:15pm.
  • We have, this afternoon, opened our PARENT CONSULTATIONS on the website for bookings.  These are for ALL parents, from Foundation through to year 6.  For Kittens, Squirrels and Woodpeckers, slots are available on Wednesday 27th 5-7pm and on Thursday 28th 3:30-5:30pm.  For Foxes, slots are available across that week.  Please log onto the website and book your slot.  If you have any issues, please do get in touch with the office.
  • We would like to give you a HEADS UP on some of the important dates coming up over the next few weeks.  As always there is the summary below for the next fortnight.  On Friday 29th November we will be holding a non-uniform day in return for a bottle for the Christmas Fayre, at 2pm that afternoon parents are invited to come into school to make Christmas decorations with the children.  The following Monday, 2nd December, will be our Christmas Tree Service at 9am and parents are warmly invited to join us.
  • As part of ANTI-BULLYING WEEK, we will be speaking to each class about Online Safety, and this is a good time to consider having those important conversations at home too.
These are the ten key messages that should be shared with children:
1."You can always come to me if you need help."
2."What would you do if this happened…?"
3."Remember that not everyone is who they say they are online."
4."Keep your personal information safe, and other people’s too."
    5."Be respectful to others online."
    6."Think before you post."
7."Remember to ask if it’s okay."
8."Remember not everything is true online."
9."The things other people post online might not always show what their life is really like."
10."Recognise how going online makes you feel and take a break when you need to."
Attached to the weekly news are also 2 factsheets about YouTube and TikTok for parents to make sure that your children are using them safely.  These can also be found on the Online Safety tab of our website - follow the School Information Tab, then Curriculum and Assessment and then Online Safety.
Also watch out for our Digital Parenting Magazine sent home earlier this week, to support you further.
  • The PARISH COUNCIL have shared with us a link to express our displeasure regarding the disruption caused by the roadworks at the Taylor Wimpey development.  If you would like to let the developers know your views, please follow:
