Woodpeckers Weekly Blog Monday 7th September

Date: 8th Sep 2020 @ 8:10am

Good morning Woodpeckers Class and Parents.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and managed to enjoy the sunshine.

I will now be starting a weekly blog which I will add to throughout the week to keep you up to date with anything you may need to know.

PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays and you will need to come to school in your PE kit. Please remember some warmer clothes such as a fleece and joggers as PE will be outside as much as possible. These should be a plain colour if possible.

Homework will be a CGP grammar book and homework will be set daily following teaching in school. It should take no more than 5-10 minutes but must be completed each night ready for the next day. This is to ensure you are confident with the grammar from last year before we move on. Therefore, year 4 have a year 3 book. Year 3 you have a year 2 book.

I will add to the blog the page numbers to be completed. There will also be weekly spellings to practice using Spelling Shed. Spelling Shed has now been fully set up. Please find your child's login stuck on the back cover of their planner. They will be able to practise their current word list, which they will be tested on on Friday 18th September.

Reading will remain an essential part of daily homework. It is crucial that you read daily either on your own or with an adult. Please read at least 5 times a week, and record this in your planner.

Water bottles should be clear plastic and not too big if you want to keep them on your desk. Please try to keep your rucksack small as the lockers only have a certain amount of space.

Thank you all again for such a positive start to the new and slightly different school year. If you continue this attitude then I am sure we will have a successful year. If parents have any questions about anything in these blogs, you can ask them on here and I will reply to you as soon as I can.

Friday News

Just a few things to note after a successful full week back for the children. Today every child has been given their planner. This is to be brought into school daily along with the CGP book.

Spellings

Every Friday, your child will stick their spelling list in their planner under the correct week. They will be tested on these in a random order the following Friday. Inside the front cover of the planner are the statutory year 3/4 word list. Please encourage your child to learn the first column (highlighted) over the next few weeks. The highlighted column is the one we are learning this half term.

Spelling Shed

Every child has a new password for Spelling Shed. This has been stuck on the back page of your child's planner along with their username. I am in the process of setting up the class with the correct word lists. Please use pen, paper and oral methods of practising whilst I set it up and keep checking Spelling Shed. Thank you for your patience with this.

Times Tables Rockstars

The login for this has also been stuck into the back of the planners. Please do use this amazing resource, as it really helps to support your child in so many areas of maths in class.

Reading Books

Today every child has been sent home with a reading book from school. Books can only be returned on Tuesday and Thursday. Please record your child's reading in their planner, with the date, name of book, page number and a comment on their reading/discussion.

Please do email the office if you have any questions. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend in the sun.
