Copdock Weekly Update 04/10/2024

Information to Share

Data Collection - at this time of year we usually ask you to confirm the data which we hold on our systems in school.  However, the local authority are moving to a new provider which in turn means we will be transferring the data we hold onto a new database over the next few months.  Therefore, we have taken the decision to wait until we have the new system in place to check data with yourselves.  Please note, we rely upon you to keep us up to date with any changes to your data as and when they become relevant - whether that's a new mobile number, new email address or a change of surgery or medical condition - please just email us with the change so that we can keep everything up to date.

KS1 Walk to Church - on Monday, the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be walking to Copdock Church to support their learning in RE.  This is covered under the local visit permission that you have given.  Children may wear trainers along with their normal school uniform.  Please ensure all children have a coat with them.

Clarinet - there will be no clarinet next Tuesday for Foxes, but they can keep practicing at home.

Ipswich School Festival - next Wednesday morning KS2 children will be transported to Ipswich School for a music festival. The children will return for lunch.

Harvest Festival - next Thursday is our annual harvest festival at the church.  Parents are welcome to join us for singing and prayers from 2.40pm, with parking available at Copdock Hall. If you would like to make a contribution to the harvest collection, please send in any tinned/packet food (in good date) with your child on the morning. These will be added to the church collection before distribution.  Please note ALL children need to be collected from the church on this occasion.  If your child will be attending after school club, please confirm to us to ensure we are aware they need bringing back to school.

High School Applications - year 6 parents have until the end of October to apply for a high school place from September 2025.  Please ensure you get the application in well in advance of the deadline!

Amen Shoebox Appeal - We will be supporting the shoebox appeal alongside the church once again this year, linking this to our value of generosity with the children. Leaflets are available in school if you wish to complete your own box. However, we also welcome any small gifts from our families so the children can make up boxes with the donations received. More information about suitable gifts can be found on the attached poster. The deadline for gifts is half term please, allowing time for boxes to be packed and prepared for delivery. Thank you in advance for your support.

Afternoon Tea - our meals provider, LunchtimeCo, are keen to work with families to ensure as many children as possible take up the option of a school meal, especially if fully funded by the government.  They will be holding a taster session on Friday 18th October, from 2pm, so parents can sample some food from the menu and discuss possible tweaks to increase uptake.  Please come along if possible to help shape this provision going forwards.

Packed Lunches - just a reminder that children's packed lunches from home should not contain nuts as we have a few children in school who have nut allergies. Thank you

Open Event for Prospective Parents - we will be holding our open event on Wednesday 13th November, 9.30am and 6pm.  Please share the word if you know anyone looking for a school place in September 2025.

PTA AGM - please be advised that the PTA will be holding their AGM on Monday 21st October at 8pm in the school hall.  Please come along to support them, find out what they do and how you can help, even if it's not on a regular basis.

PTA Halloween Disco - please see attached poster for details of the next PTA event.  Join us for a spooktackular disco on Friday 25th October at Copdock Village Hall.  The evening will be full of tricks and treats for all.  The disco will finish at 4:45 with the raffle draw following at 5pm.  Dressing up is highly encouraged.  Can't wait to see you there. 👻 Grab your tickets now for just £4! 👻

Class Cake Sales - the PTA are looking to reintroduce the Class Cake Sales.  On the selected date, the named class families are asked to provide cakes to be sold on the playground at the end of the day.  All parents/children are then able to purchase the cakes for a nominal fee.  The PTA will collect the money.  Each class will have one date per school year to supply cakes - these can be home-made or shop bought.  Please see attached poster for the dates and classes supplying the cakes.  Please do support this event.

PGL - please ensure the Educational Visits form sent home last week is completed and returned by 18th October at the latest - please ensure the final paragraph is completed with a response to the question.

Lockdown Procedure - as mentioned in last week's newsletter, we carried out a lockdown drill to test out our procedure enabling us to fine tune it.

REMINDERS!!!!

As the weather has turned more autumnal, please ensure your child has a named coat or waterproof in school for break times - we do like to get outside even if it's a bit drizzly.

Those in Woodpeckers who are swimming need to remember their kits on Mondays

Foxes need to remember clarinets for their lessons on Tuesdays (except 8th Oct)

Reception children need to wear their Forest Schools clothing on Fridays

Earrings must be removed for PE lessons

Please ensure anything brought into school is labelled.  Look out for lost property on the lunchbox trolley each evening.

words.PNG

Every week we encourage parents to support their children to learn and use new vocabulary.  In school we will be exploring the origin of new words, what they mean and how to use them effectively in context.  If you can encourage your child to use these words it would be really helpful!
