Copdock Remembers
Staff, children, parents and some members of our local community gathered together for our special Remembrance Service in the school hall today. The children were extremely reflective during our 2 minutes silence and our Head Pupils supported the act of remembrance with pride.
In remembrance of those whose lives were lost we laid poppy crosses in our quiet area outside. Noah, Daisy, Amelia and Joseph also visited the WWI war grave for Ernest Harvey at St Peter's church. They were accompanied by Mark Blackwell, who currently serves in the Royal Navy, to lay wreaths, crosses and commemorative markers on the grave and WWII memorial.
The children have been learning all about The Great War and the many sacrifices made. Activities today have included a visit from Clive Pearsons, grandson of Ernest Harvey, to explain how he became holder of the commemorative plaque ('Dead Man's' Penny) for his grandfather. He spoke to all classes and showed Ernest's medals and other letters too. Mark Blackwell also visited each classroom, in full uniform, to talk about his role in the Royal Navy and answer the many interesting questions from the children.
A big thank you to Jacob Coopers family too, for providing a range of medal, letters, photographs and artefacts from WWI. Along with Mr Austin's collection of shell cases, maps and tools, these allowed the children to handle items over 100 years old and ask many thoughtful questions about how and what they were used for. We hope they come home telling you all about their learning today and you enjoy the photos of the day below.
